Gold Price Per Troy Ounce in USD & EUR (2026)

Gold trades at about $4,054 per troy ounce as of 26 July 2026, which is roughly €3,562 at an exchange rate of €1 = $1.1379. A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams — about 10% heavier than the everyday avoirdupois ounce of 28.3495 grams, which is the single most common source of confusion when people compare gold prices. This guide gives the price in both currencies, explains the troy ounce properly, and provides the conversions between every unit gold is quoted in.
What is the gold price per troy ounce today?
Gold is about $4,054 per troy ounce (26 July 2026), which converts to roughly €3,562 at an exchange rate of €1 = $1.1379. That's the spot price — the raw metal value before any dealer premium. Gold trades nearly 24 hours a day, so treat any published figure as a snapshot and check a live price before buying.
| Unit | USD | EUR (at 1.1379) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 troy ounce (31.1035 g) | $4,053.70 | €3,562.44 |
| 1 gram | $130.33 | €114.55 |
| 10 grams | $1,303.30 | €1,145.53 |
| 100 grams | $13,033 | €11,455 |
| 1 kilo (32.1507 oz) | $130,329 | €114,552 |
What is a troy ounce, and how is it different from a normal ounce?
A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams; the everyday avoirdupois ounce is 28.349523 grams. The troy ounce is therefore about 9.7% heavier. Precious metals have been weighed in troy ounces for centuries, and every gold quote you see uses them — so comparing a gold price to a kitchen-scale ounce will always be wrong by roughly a tenth.
| Troy ounce | Avoirdupois (normal) ounce | |
|---|---|---|
| Grams | 31.1034768 g | 28.349523 g |
| Used for | Gold, silver, platinum | Food, general goods |
| Per pound | 12 troy oz per troy pound | 16 oz per pound |
| Relative weight | ~9.7% heavier | Lighter |
How do you convert the gold price between units?
Two constants do everything. 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 grams and 1 kilo = 32.1507 troy ounces. From the spot price per ounce:
- Per gram = spot ÷ 31.1035
- Per kilo = spot × 32.1507
- Per any weight in grams = (grams ÷ 31.1035) × spot
- In euros = the USD figure ÷ the EUR/USD rate (÷ 1.1379 today)
Why is the euro gold price not just a fixed conversion?
Because it has two moving parts. Gold is priced internationally in US dollars, so the euro price depends on both the dollar gold price and the EUR/USD exchange rate. A stronger euro lowers the euro price of gold even if the dollar price hasn't moved; a stronger dollar raises it. That's why a euro figure is only valid for the rate and moment it was calculated — always note the rate used.
What drives the gold price in 2026?
Gold broke above $4,000 in late 2025 and has traded in the $4,000–4,200 range through mid-2026, held up by three structural forces:
- Central-bank buying. Central banks have bought over 1,000 tonnes for three consecutive years, creating a demand floor — see our central banks and gold analysis.
- Real interest rates. When inflation runs above bond yields, non-yielding gold becomes relatively more attractive.
- Currency and geopolitical hedging. Gold remains the classic hedge against debasement and systemic risk.
- For where this may go, see our gold price forecast.
Why is the price you pay higher than spot?
Spot is the raw metal value; a physical coin or bar also carries a premium over spot covering refining, minting, insurance and the dealer's margin. It scales inversely with size: roughly 3–5% on a one-ounce coin, 2–4% on a 100 g bar, and 1–2% on a kilo bar. Our gold bars guide breaks this down by size, and you can always see live pricing on the live prices page.
